Arturo
Greetings to all!
Today for "Origins" we are sharing Arturo Luis Rivera Rivera's story. He is currently finishing a bachelor’s degree in Molecular Biology at the University of Puerto Rico, Rio Piedras campus. His goal is to pursue a Ph.D. in Neuroscience. He is also an undergraduate researcher in Christian Bravo’s laboratory at the University of Puerto Rico Medical Sciences Campus. He contributes to a project that seeks to characterize the neural circuitry behind decision-making when conflicting motivations compete.
As he states:
"My goal is to research the neural circuitry behind addiction and to one way be able to improve Puerto Rico’s mental health system. I am very interested in this field since I wish to develop a better understanding and maybe even find treatments for this condition. I have seen how lacking the island's system for helping those suffering from this condition is, this is something I seek to change."
Arturo is a very close friend who has been there in some of my lowest moments. His view of life, relationships, and the mind have always been inspiring and eye-opening. I am entirely grateful to have shared a workspace with this fantastic human being. I am looking forward to seeing all he will achieve.
Enjoy!
